Chartered Bus Trip to San Francisco
By Dr. Maxwell Cheung, Class of 1960

SFtrip pic 1 SFtrip pic 2a A three-day event from October 1-3, 2010 planned by the Los An-geles Pui Ching Alumni Associa-tion was a total success. The weather was perfect and everything went smoothly as scheduled.

SFtrip pic 2b On behalf of the Southern California Zhengshe alumni, we would like to thank the San Francisco's Pui Ching Alumni Association for inviting us to participate in their Alumni Day Celebration, the San Francisco Zhengshe Alumni for their hospitality and last, but not least, the Los Angeles Pui Ching Alumni Association for organizing the charter bus trip. All of our Zhengshe classmates received a beautiful trophy medallion to re-member this event with.

SFtrip pic 3At 8:30, Friday morning, the bus picked up the first 21 passengers from the Monterey Park stop. It then arrived in Silver Lake, near Down Town LA to pick up the remaining passengers. Among the 26 passengers there were 2 elders over 90 years young: Mrs. Lillian Wong (Norman's mother, 99.5 years old) and 魏奉磐先生 (1940年, 毓社).

They had no problem climbing up and down the bus and took part in almost all the activities we had on our list.

SFtrip pic 4The bus ride was long (6+ hours each way), but the service were definitely much better than on an airplane. Norman cooked 茶葉蛋 and brought in red and white wines, beer, 牛肉夾, fruits, almonds with shell, ... enough to feed a village. With good food and programs on board, it was really an enjoyable experience.

There were plenty of spaces on the bus. One could stretch out from window to the aisle. It seemed that the 6 hours ride was not long enough. For the record, 麥志雄 (善社) won the pool of money by guessing the arrival time to within minutes. He promised to treat all the co-passengers for dim sum on the next bus trip.
