Dear Pui Ching Alumni:

The first six months of the new administration has been busy and exciting. We are pleased to report our recent activities and plans to serve you and the LAPCAA better as the year moves along.

ACTIVITIES TO DATE
Concert pic Summer Concert:

On August 21st, our alums, friends and families enjoyed an evening at the Arcadia Arboretum where we picnicked and listened to the California Philharmonic under the harvest moon. The evening was perfect, with mild weather, clear skies, full moon and the sound of Beethoven’s Ninth with a 200-member choir. Julie Chan Mun Chu ordered wraps for dinner and added snacks of fruit and chips. There was red and white wine, just enough to whet our appetite and enhance the enjoyment of friendship and good music.

SFtrip pic 1 Chartered Bus Trip to San Francisco:

This was a first-ever event of a LAPCAA members group to travel as a group to attend the San Francisco Pui Ching Alumni Association’s Alumni Day celebration. Coinciding with the classes of 5’s and 10’s, we had a good group of 1940, 1955 and 1960 classmates attending the affair. The eldest on the bus was Lillian Wong, Dr. David Wong’s widow. At 99 ½, she was alert and thoroughly enjoyed the bus ride through 9 hours of travel on highway 5 from Los Angeles to Oakland and back. One highlight of the trip was a group visit to historic Angel Island Immigration Center in the San Francisco Bay which this year commemorates its centennial. We had a guided, private tour of the detention center where many of our Chinese forefathers were held and interrogated for days, even months, before they were either released to immigrate or returned to China in shame and disappointment.

UPCOMING EVENT: MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!
Six Christian Schools’ Christmas Celebration—Sunday, December 12, 2010
For over 20 years, this has been an annual event where the six Christian schools gather to cele-brate Christmas in LA together. Why these six schools? The answer is tradition!
Pui Ching, Pui To, Ling Nam, Pui Ying, True Light and Ling Ying-these outstanding and time-honored institutions were founded in Guangzhou and were the standard bearers of Christian education in their time. They were friendly rivals, but were family. Celebrating the birth of Christ by reuniting alums, families and lifelong friendships in LA for fun, food and fellowship annually is a precious and heartwarming event for all who attend.
Reserve your space or table today! Show our Pui Ching spirit and support this yearly gala event!!!

Building our Organization
It is the goal of this administration to build a strong and structured organization-one that represents and serves the members’ best interest, is dedicated to preserving the Pui Ching spirit and being accountable to its members. To that end, a mission statement and by-laws are planned and upon completion will be presented to all members for vote and accepted as the charter of our organization.

Sincerely,
